Masterclass: You are the Newsroom

Saturday, September 2611:20 AM – 12:05 PMAl-QudsVIP only

About this session

When newsrooms cut the desks that verify claims and answer engines summarize a war without sending a reader to the people who reported it, the record of what happened to our communities depends on whoever was there with a phone. The founder of Seen covered the Syrian war on one, then trained 750 journalists to do the same. This is that method, compressed into forty-five minutes.

Who this is for

Creators, organizers, students, and anyone who has been somewhere the cameras were not.

On the table

  • How do you shoot, verify and publish from the ground with nothing but what is in your pocket?
  • How do you make something true travel as far as something false?
  • What do you owe the person in front of your lens?

You'll leave with

  • A phone-only reporting workflow you can run the same day
  • A verification checklist that makes your footage believable to a newsroom
  • The discipline to carry testimony rather than content

Speaker

September 26 at Civic Hall, New York. Sessions are added to the agenda as they are confirmed.
