Chris Blauvelt was finishing a master’s at the University of Michigan, with a six-figure offer from the Islamic Development Bank in hand, when a friend asked him to come to Detroit instead. He took Detroit. LaunchGood, the crowdfunding platform he co-founded there in 2013, has since raised more than $650 million from donors in over 150 countries.
