About

Mohamed AbuTaleb leads AI research at Yaqeen Institute, where he is lead author of “Toward an Islamic Ethics and Fiqh of Artificial Intelligence” — a framework that applies fiqh al-muwazanat, the jurisprudence of weighing benefit against harm, to questions like AI-generated religious rulings. He holds a PhD and a master’s in electrical engineering from MIT and an Alimiyyah degree from Al-Salam Institute, and left a technology leadership career at a Fortune 100 company to serve as imam and religious director of one of the largest Islamic centers in the South. He is Dean of Administration at Boston Islamic Seminary and has lectured at Harvard, MIT and Duke.
